What is the Hour of Code? The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Check out the tutorials and activities. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide. The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2016 Computer Science Education Week will be December 5-11, but you can host an Hour of Code all year round. Date: Friday, October 21, 2016 Time: 9am-12pm Location:L1126 (Teaching Centre) In this fast paced, hands-on workshop facilitated by Adriane MacDonald, participants will gain experience with the design process and design thinking (NO PREVIOUS DESIGN EXPERIENCE REQUIRED). They will be asked to use design principles to identify practical and innovative solutions to a problem. This will include having participants pair up to interview each other, identify real needs, and develop a solution for their partner. We’ll provide all the resources you will need to be successful, so just bring yourself and have fun!
