Ken King

President and CEO of the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation

Ken King is President and CEO of the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, which includes the Calgary Flames, Stampeders, Hitmen and Roughnecks and represents the organizations as Alternate Governor of the NHL and Governor of the CFL, WHL and NLL. Born and raised in Hanley, Sask., Ken assumed his current role in 2001 following a successful 30-year career in the newspaper business that included senior executive positions at the Calgary Sun and Calgary Herald.

Throughout his career, he has been acknowledged for his keen business sense, innovative marketing, establishment of healthy corporate relationships and spirited community leadership. He knows great achievements are possible when aspiration and determination are combined with a visionary approach, meaningful intentions, responsible actions and, above all, consideration for others.

King’s current community involvement includes the TELUS Community Board, the Calgary Airport Authority Board, the Calgary Sport Tourism Authority Board and the Borden Ladner Gervais CIS Athlete of the Year Awards Committee.

He is the recipient of an Alberta Centennial Medal for outstanding contributions to the province, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for community service, the commemorative medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada and was honoured as B’Nai Brith Man of the Year.

Dave has earned 3 university degrees, built his own business, and worked in numerous countries, including the 3rd world. He assists with local, national, & international causes, including his “top of the world society” for children. He is the CEO of sq enterprises international, an internationally awarded educator, his alma mater’s humanitarian of the year & top 100 alumni of the century, a recipient of 3 medals from the queen, is on the presidential ‘who’s who’ list of leaders & executives, 4 time MLA for Calgary-Lougheed, 3rd party opposition house leader, former minister of wellness, and advocate for wellness, indigenous relations, education, & advanced education.

His photography, videography, and written work have been utilized by the likes of National Geographic, the BBC, the New York Times, Life and Discovery Channel’s International…and even “Oprah”. He is featured in over 20 books and documentaries, including: “Heroes with Heart”, “Extraordinary Lives”, “Lost in Everest’s Death Zone”, and “Back to Everest: the Dave Rodney Story”. 5. He is one of the very few people in world history to successfully summit the world’s tallest mountain, Mt. Everest— not just once, but twice!
